1. Never compare yourself to anyone
Especially on the internet! #ThesePostsAintLoyal This one doesn’t need much explaining, but everyone knows that Instagram and all of social media is filled with everyone’s highlight reels; people love to post their major life accomplishments, new cars, vacations, shopping sprees, and lots of editing. Once you learn to stop comparing yourself to others’ bodies, belongings, and experiences, you can focus on yourself and work on your own goals. 2. First comes diet, then comes exercise It turns out, the gym is the easy part. You can train for 2 hours a day, or run a million miles on the treadmill, but if you come home and eat pizza and ice cream or go for drinks after you just busted your ass at the gym, you won’t see the results you’re hoping for. Some might say, “But it’s LEG DAY!” or, “well I had no carbs today so it’s fine.” Well, it’s not. You need carbs; food is fuel! Take the time to learn what a proper diet looks like and add that to your training routine. You’ll probably end up running less and eating more. #TrustTheProcess 3. Water is good for you. Like, really good for you. Water cures all. Not only does it quench your thirst, but it also improves energy levels and immunity, boosts physical performance, clears toxins, clears the skin, can help promote weight loss… just to name a few. #StartChuggin Click here to read why you should be drinking more water! 4. I don’t need coffee I’ve recently discovered coffee. I used to hate it up until about a year ago and now, I have a cup every morning when I get to work. I don’t use sugar, only almond milk. But I’ve gotten into the habit of making sure I finish my 32oz water bottle before I leave my house for work. Drinking water first thing in the morning wakes me up even more than a cup of coffee does; so I don’t really need it. Between my diet and water consumption, I have enough energy to get me through the day without coffee. Now, I simply enjoy drinking a hot cup of coffee (or tea) at my desk because my office is freezing. 5. I sleep better The schedule of a working #fitchick can be hectic. I wake up for fasted cardio (if I feel like it) then go to work until 5pm. After work I’ll have a meal, then go to the gym and train. After the gym, I’ll have another meal, take a shower, and sleep like a baby. It’s been proven that exercise reduces stress and tires you out. The fitlife has helped me fall asleep faster and has definitely improved my sleep quality. 6. I am capable of doing fasted cardio every morning I have prep to thank for this. I knew I had to do whatever my coach told me to in order to place well in my first show. I hated waking up early to do cardio, but I forced myself up and got it done. After about a week or so, I was waking up without an alarm and it turns out, along with the water, this wakes me up and gives me so much energy! When I lay in bed, ignore the alarm, and fall back asleep, I wake up groggy and tired. When I get up right away and do some cardio, I am ready to conquer the day! 7. Weights are AWESOME. Don’t be a cardio bunny. Everybody is different. Some coaches tell their clients to do less cardio, some demand more. And believe it or not, bikini girls are STRONG. We lift real weights, and train harder than most dudes in the gym. So ladies, stop thinking weights will make you manly and bulky. If your goal has ever been to be more “toned,” you need to hit the weights and get off the damn treadmill. Thank me later. 8. No stress! The gym is my happy place. If I’m mad, sad, excited, happy, had a bad day, tired, super motivated, WHATEVER mood I’m in, the gym is always a solution. I can let out any anger and stress with a strong lift and intense cardio session. I can kill it when I’m in a great mood too but the point is, working out clears my head, and leaves me with no stress. 9. I get sick less often Between the consistent physical activity, a healthy diet with whole foods, vitamins, water, and quality sleep, I couldn’t tell you the last time I got sick. Aside from my regular check-ups, I haven’t been to the doctor in years; and I have this lifestyle to thank for that. 10. To never use elevators Don’t be lazy. Just take the stairs, it won’t kill ya. In fact, taking the easy/lazy way out of any sort of physical activity might actually kill you. But in all seriousness, even though I workout, sometimes taking a flight of stairs still has me huffing and puffing at the top. Because my job is sedentary, I am always looking to raise my heart rate a bit and get some extra steps in throughout the day. Click here for 10 MORE things that the #fitlife has taught me.
