Stepping Out Of Your Comfort Zone

How many times have you told yourself you were going to do something, but just never got to it? Was the thought of it too scary, so you pushed it aside? Is there “never a good time?” As cliché as it sounds, I’m here to tell you, AMAZING things will come when you step out of your comfort zone, and just DO IT.
I’m not talking about quitting your job tomorrow and starting a Fortune 500 company. It could be something like waking up earlier than you normally do to get a workout in. Or getting into a new hobby that you’ve always thought about, but never started. When did I step out of my comfort zone? I guess the first time would have to be when I stepped foot in an actual gym. I only did home workouts. In fact, Insanity was my first set of workout DVDs and I did it religiously. My mom also had a few tapes that I would do here and there. But the thought of going to the gym was really intimidating. Fast forward a few years, I made it into an actual gym.. with weights.. and people. #OMG I had no idea where to go first. As confusing as they all looked, I eventually learned how to use each machine, learned the layout of the gym, and became more comfortable with the whole thing. A few months into weight training, I started seeing some muscle definition, started losing some fat, and well, the rest is history. It wasn’t until a few years later that I was introduced to Guy Delcorso, who is still coaching me. He taught me how to REALLY train, and showed me what a real diet was. He told me I should consider entering a body building competition, and I laughed. I had absolutely no interest. There was no way I would ever even consider walking on stage in a bikini and heels. #GetReal. But time passed, I kept training with him and stayed on track with my diet and then realized… For the past 7 years, I’ve been eating so well, training so hard, for what? Most people find this lifestyle impossible, but I find it so fun, and it’s easy for me. I’m eating so clean (most of the time) and training 6-7 days a week. I should try one of those competitions. What do I have to lose? How much different can it be from what I’m doing now anyway? Well, there was definitely more fish and more cardio than I was used to, but I adjusted to the changes quickly and had SO much fun during my first prep. Seeing the changes week after week was UNREAL. I had abs, my legs looked AWESOME, and I was so motivated. But when I had to order a suit and go for some posing lessons, shit got real. #FunFact I’m shy. Like, really shy. I wasn’t sure if I could get up there and walk on stage in front of hundreds of people. I started to have doubts. “This isn’t me. I can’t do this. No way. I’m out.” Fast forward to the morning of my first show. I’m getting hair and makeup done, I need one more coat of spray tan, and then it’s show time! The nerves were gone, I stepped on stage, and KILLED IT. It was like I turned into this sassy bikini girl just like that; strutting my stuff across the stage, smiling at the judges, hitting my poses like I’ve done this a million times. It was such a rush. I took 3rd place in Novice and 2nd place in Open; not bad at all for my first time! And since taking this chance, I’ve met so many new people, learned so much about the industry, and learned a lot about myself. My younger sister is another example of someone that took a chance on herself. She’s still in college and going to school to be a teacher. While she was in school, she got a job working at a bakery. She’s baked cakes and brownies from the box, but that’s about it. She started working behind the counter, which led to decorating some cakes, and soon she learned how to bake. After every shift, she would send us pictures of what she made that day. Turns out, she was extremely talented! I eventually convinced her to make her own Instagram (give her a follow @krs_cakes_) and that blew up! She was getting so many orders and didn’t have time to do them all, so she quit her job at the bakery and started her own business. So if you’re thinking about taking that crazy trip, or choosing a new career path, a new hobby, a new diet, new wardrobe, anything! JUST DO IT. Because if you don’t, you’re going to live the rest of your life wishing you did, wondering what would come of it, and regretting that you didn’t do it sooner. So please, take a chance on yourself. Your future self will thank you.
